Clinton, OK – The Foss Reservoir Master Conservancy District will receive $33.5 million in U.S. Department of Agriculture funding to restore its pre-treatment water plant in Custer County.
The plant supplies wholesale water to Bessie, Clinton, Hobart and Cordell.
USDA Rural Development Oklahoma State Director Zachary Swartz joined U.S. Rep. Frank Lucas at the funding presentation Thursday, Oct. 29, in Clinton. USDA published its announcement Nov. 2.
The project will restore aging water infrastructure to support the long-term water needs of western Oklahoma communities and agriculture. Swartz emphasized the importance of reliable water infrastructure to the region’s agricultural future, while Lucas highlighted its role in public health and rural economic development.
Funding comes through USDA Rural Development’s Water and Environmental Programs, which help rural communities finance drinking water and waste disposal systems.
USDA described the funding as a grant and loan investment in a photo caption accompanying the announcement. The release did not specify how much of the $33.5 million is a grant and how much must be repaid.
No construction schedule was announced.
