Cordell, OK — The Washita County Sheriff’s Office is raising funds for a monument to honor county officers who died in the line of duty. The proposed memorial would stand in front of the Washita County Justice Center on North McClary Street in Cordell.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, 11 Washita County names appear on the Oklahoma Law Enforcement Memorial in Oklahoma City. Eight are listed on the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C. Detention Officer Steven Rozell is scheduled to be added in May 2026. The agency is also working to add Chief Deputy Claude Hines and Deputy Jesse Whitfield Morris to the national wall.

The goal is 15,700 dollars to cover engraving and installation.

How to donate:

Send checks, money orders, or cashier’s checks to:

Washita County Justice Center, 400 North McClary, Cordell, OK 73632.

Note “Memorial” on the lower left corner of the envelope and on the payment so funds are placed in the correct account.
