New Big Elk Stadium Press Box Showcases Local Craftsmanship

Elk City, OK – Elk City Public Schools has completed construction on a new press box at Big Elk Stadium, a project Superintendent Mike Sparks says represents both a major improvement to the facility and the work of local businesses and craftsmen.

The new press box made its debut last Friday with the start of the 2026 football season. The district had been working toward the project for some time, with the Elk City Board of Education considering bids for the renovation earlier this year.

“It was something that's kind of been in the works, and you couldn't have asked for it to turn out any nicer than it did,” Sparks said. “It ought to be here for a long time.”

One of the most notable aspects of the project is how much of the work came from Elk City businesses and workers.

“Everything but the bricks on the outside,” Sparks said. “We had to buy the bricks from outside of Elk City, but other than that everything is here local, absolutely.”

Redibuilt Metal Products & Construction handled the project from demolition of the old press box through construction of the new facility. According to the company, every stud and steel component of the new structure was welded as part of the locally built project.

Other local contractors involved included Culver Electric, Kilhoffer Flooring, Jerry’s Glass, Jr. Noblitt LLC, Michael Poole and Pop and Sons Insulation.

The brick was provided by Martinez Brick.

For Sparks, the local involvement gave the project additional significance beyond simply replacing an aging press box.

“You've got a lot of people born and raised here who had a hand in putting this thing together,” Sparks said. “I think, again, that's one of the things about this community, especially me being somebody new, you find out how much this community means to people, and they had a lot of personal touch put in on this building.”
