Teenage Officers, Members Added to National Honor Society

Elk City High School’s new honor society members have pledged their allegiance.

ECHS recently held this year's National Honor Society induction ceremony at the Pioneer Center.

Six officers were inducted along with 23 new members.

Earlier this semester, NHS members elected this year's officers: President MacKinley Brewer, Vice President Kate Ivester, Reporter Brayden Duncan, Secretary Mylee Moran, Historian Max Murray, and Treasurer Wyatt McConnell.

The  new members were chosen by the ECHS Faculty Council, which governs the school's NHS chapter.

From its inception, the NHS's mission has been to foster scholarship, service, leadership, and character.

At the recent ECHS induction ceremony, Vice President Kate Ivester lit four candles, each representing one of these four qualities. As she did so, other officers explained each member's obligation to adhere to them.

Afterward, President MacKinley Brewer asked the inductees, who were seated in the crowd, to stand and recite the NHS pledge with her.

Then, as the new members' names were called, they walked across the Pioneer Center stage and received membership certificates.

The Elk City High School National Honor Society chapter has inducted members since 1992.
