Elk City, OK – The Elk City Police Department has received a $5,000 grant from Marathon Petroleum to purchase new equipment aimed at improving public safety.

The department recently applied for the grant through Marathon Petroleum and announced the award this week. The funding will be used to purchase two thermal monocular devices for officers.

The devices will give officers another tool when working in low-light and nighttime conditions. According to the department, the thermal monoculars can assist officers in locating and recovering missing persons as well as finding and apprehending suspects in dark conditions.

The Elk City Police Department thanked Marathon Petroleum for its continued support of local public safety efforts and the Elk City community.

The department said the investment will help provide officers with additional equipment to better serve and protect area residents.
