Yukon Man Arrested for Burglary After Being Found in Elk City Vehicle

A Yukon man is being held on a $2,500 bond in the Beckham County Detention Center after being charged with third-degree burglary.

The investigation began on the evening of November 12, when Elk City Police Department officers were dispatched to the 200 block of North Oliver regarding a male subject allegedly “looking into the window of the residence.”

Upon arriving at the scene, the reporting officer spoke with the homeowner, who explained that his wife had seen a man looking into their living room. The man was later identified as 43-year-old Eric Shawn Rea. The male homeowner went outside and reportedly asked Rea if he needed assistance. Rea allegedly replied that he was “looking for two women.”

The homeowner noticed what appeared to be a pair of scissors in Rea’s hand, which he was “flailing about.” The homeowner then reportedly asked Rea to leave before stepping back inside, locking the door, and calling 911.

Two ECPD officers began searching the area. The homeowner granted police permission to open the door of his storage shed and search his property. During the search, officers reportedly found opened mail from a nearby residence, as well as a box of miscellaneous trash that the homeowner stated did not belong to him.

We also found scissors in the driveway of the residence,” the officer noted in the report.

While some officers searched the property, another officer reported that Rea had been located inside a vehicle registered to the homeowners who made the initial call. Officers learned that the vehicle had reportedly been inoperable for “quite some time.” According to the affidavit, Rea appeared to be asleep in the passenger seat.

After taking Rea into custody, officers allegedly found a key to the vehicle in his pocket. Rea was charged with third-degree burglary for being inside the vehicle and possessing the key, which the reporting officer alleges was evidence of his intent to steal property from the car. Rea reportedly did not have permission to be inside the vehicle.
