Fatal Semi Collision Claims Life in Roger Mills County

The Penny News 22

A tragic fatality collision occurred on October 5, 2024, around 12:30 p.m. at the intersection of OK-47 and N 1710 Road, approximately one mile west of Reydon in Roger Mills County.

The accident involved a 2016 Freightliner semi driven by 56-year-old Michael R. Hatfield of Elk City. Hatfield was traveling westbound on OK-47 when, for reasons currently under investigation, his vehicle left the roadway. In an attempt to correct course, Hatfield overcorrected, causing the semi to roll roughly one and a half times before coming to rest on its top.

Emergency responders from the Reydon Fire Department worked to free Hatfield, who was pinned inside the vehicle. Despite their efforts, Hatfield was pronounced deceased at the scene due to head and trunk internal injuries.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation, and authorities are working to determine what led to the vehicle leaving the roadway. Hatfield was reportedly wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
