Cordell, OK — The Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) has issued a boil order for the Cordell Utility Authority after confirming the presence of E. coli bacteria in the city's drinking water supply.
Residents are advised to bring water to a rolling boil for at least one minute before using it for drinking, cooking or food preparation. Bottled water or water from another safe source may also be used.
Officials caution that boiled tap water should not be given to infants because Cordell's water has a history of elevated nitrate concentrations. Boiling water does not remove nitrates and can increase their concentration, potentially making the water unsafe for infants.
The boil order will remain in effect until officials determine the water is safe for consumption. Residents will be notified when the order is lifted.
