Beckham County, OK – A 32-year-old Illinois man is facing multiple felony charges after authorities say he fled from a traffic stop in Beckham County before officers discovered a large quantity of methamphetamine and cocaine inside a stolen vehicle.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed in Beckham County District Court, Randy S. Miller, of Skokie, Illinois, has been charged with felony eluding, possession of a stolen vehicle, aggravated trafficking of methamphetamine, and trafficking of cocaine.
Court records state the incident occurred June 24 when an Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics agent observed a gray Volvo traveling east on Interstate 40 with two different California license plates. After initiating a traffic stop near mile marker 12, the agent contacted Miller and informed him the vehicle displayed mismatched license plates.
According to the affidavit, when asked a second time to provide his driver's license, Miller accelerated away from the traffic stop at a high rate of speed.
Authorities allege Miller continued east on Interstate 40, passed other motorists, exited at Exit 14, and traveled north before heading east on the north service road toward Sayre. Investigators said Miller drove into oncoming traffic while attempting to pass vehicles before officers lost sight of the Volvo.
The vehicle was later found parked and locked at an apartment complex in Sayre. A law enforcement K9 team tracked Miller to a wooded area, where he was found hiding and taken into custody.
According to court documents, investigators found Miller in possession of the vehicle's keys. The affidavit states the Volvo was later determined to have been stolen.
After obtaining a search warrant, investigators searched the vehicle and reported finding approximately 42.87 pounds of methamphetamine and 49 grams of cocaine. The affidavit states field tests indicated the substances tested positive for methamphetamine and cocaine.
Court records indicate Miller's bond was set at $500,000. If released on bond, he must wear an ankle monitor, according to court documents.
The allegations are contained in a probable cause affidavit. Formal charges have been filed, and Miller is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
