Sayre, OK — Two Sayre residents are now facing multiple felony charges following a Beckham County Sheriff's Office investigation that led to the recovery of stolen property connected to several burglaries, the seizure of methamphetamine, and a hazardous exposure incident that sent four law enforcement officers to the hospital.
According to court records filed in Beckham County District Court, Phylicia Rene Walton, 34, and Malcolm Douglas Wilson, 40, have each been charged with:
Trafficking in Illegal Drugs (Methamphetamine)
Knowingly Receiving or Concealing Stolen Property
Maintaining a Place for Keeping or Selling a Controlled Substance
Possession of Stolen Copper
Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
The charges stem from a search warrant executed May 29 at a residence and fifth-wheel camper in the 200 block of Poplar Avenue in Sayre.
Beckham County Sheriff Derek Manning previously said the search warrant led investigators to recover thousands of dollars worth of stolen property and helped solve at least six burglary cases.
"We actually had people in the neighborhood coming up as my guys were serving the search warrant and saying, 'Hey, I've been missing that,'" Manning said. "We solved some burglaries that hadn't even been reported yet."
The investigation began after a church burglary in which copper tubing, copper wiring, tools and other property were reported stolen. According to a probable cause affidavit, deputies recovered numerous items allegedly taken from the church, including construction power tools valued at more than $1,000. Church representatives reportedly identified the items as property stolen during the burglary.
Investigators also recovered copper tubing, copper wire, a DeWalt grinder and modified tree pruners believed to have been used to cut copper wiring and tubing.
During the search, deputies discovered evidence investigators say was consistent with methamphetamine trafficking, including digital scales, plastic baggies and packaging materials. Authorities reported finding a plate containing a substance that field-tested positive for methamphetamine along with two glass smoking devices containing liquid substances that also field-tested positive. Court records state the combined weight of the liquid substances exceeded 50 grams.
According to the affidavit, all of the narcotics-related evidence was recovered from the fifth-wheel camper located on the property.
The search also led to a potentially dangerous exposure incident. Sheriff Manning said deputies entering the camper began experiencing symptoms including difficulty breathing, numbness and tingling in their faces and lips, light-headedness and coughing.
"They got out immediately," Manning said.
A fourth deputy later entered the trailer while wearing breathing apparatus equipment but reportedly experienced similar symptoms despite the protective gear.
Four officers were transported to a hospital for evaluation and released several hours later. Authorities requested assistance from the Oklahoma National Guard's Hazardous Materials Unit, which responded to investigate. Officials have not determined the source of the exposure.
"We still don't know what it was," Manning said.
Investigators have not ruled out a connection to the methamphetamine found at the property, although no equipment commonly associated with a methamphetamine laboratory was located.
According to court documents, Walton told investigators during the search that she and Wilson lived together in the camper trailer. Authorities said that admission, combined with the location of the alleged narcotics and stolen property, led to her arrest.
Investigators also reported receiving information from neighbors who described frequent vehicle and foot traffic at the property and identified additional items recovered during the search that had not previously been reported stolen.
Prosecutors have filed a supplemental information alleging Wilson has prior felony convictions in Beckham County, including intimidation of a witness in 2021 and possession of a firearm after former felony conviction in 2025.
A judge found probable cause for Wilson's arrest and set bond at $300,000.
The investigation remains ongoing.
As with all criminal cases, the charges are allegations, and both defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
