Elk City, OK – An Elk City landmark is showing its true colors.
According to museum curator Anna Wray, the Old Town Museum has undergone lots of structural work from top to bottom, and this is being accompanied by a historically accurate paint job.
The building's new color scheme reflects the shades of its original construction.
"We wanted to restore its historical beauty while also making it feel inviting," Wray said. "The building sits at the corner of two busy roads and is one of the first structures people see when driving by the museum, so it needed to be eye catching."
Wray got input from Sara Cloude, Maxine Jackson, and the rest of the museum team, and the result represents a lot of research and thought.
The new blue is 9134 Delft, and the trim is Shoji White.
A busy summer season is expected for the museum complex because of Route 66's centennial this year. The Mother Road, connecting Chicago to Santa Monica, Calif., opened on November 11, 1926.
The Old Town gazebo will also undergo repairs and be painted the same color as the museum building.
"A big shout out to Rusty, Brian, and Dallas, who are doing all the work on Old Town," Wray said.
The National Route 66 building, the Transportation building, and the Bruening House at the museum grounds have also been painted during the past year, and several maintenance projects throughout the complex have been completed ahead of this year's busy summer season.
