Shamrock, TX – Several candidates have filed for the upcoming Shamrock municipal election scheduled for May 2, 2026, where voters will decide two seats on the Shamrock City Council.

James Henderson has announced his candidacy for one of the council positions. Henderson, a longtime Shamrock resident, said he is running to play a more active role in the community and to help guide the city’s future.

Henderson, 63, was born in Shamrock and currently serves as pastor of 11th Street Baptist Church. He also works delivering mail in the city. A veteran of the United States Air Force, Henderson said his experiences in both ministry and community service have helped him build strong relationships with residents across the area.

I love Shamrock and this community,” Henderson said in his announcement. “I have become well acquainted with many people here, partly from being a pastor, and partly from delivering mail.”

Henderson and his wife, Janet, have been married for 24 years. Together they have two children, Ashley and Ryan Medlock, and three grandchildren. Their grandchildren include Jordan, a student at Shamrock Elementary, John, who attends school in Fort Elliott, and a younger granddaughter, Rylie.

In his announcement, Henderson said he believes Shamrock’s strength comes from its people and their willingness to work together.

Our city is more than just streets, buildings, and infrastructure,” Henderson said. “It’s a living community made up of people from all walks of life. It’s the laughter of children in our parks, the dedication of small business owners opening their doors each morning, and the determination of neighbors who look out for one another.”

Henderson said he believes he brings maturity, common sense, and the ability to listen to differing viewpoints, which he believes are important qualities for making decisions that benefit the entire community.

He added that he hopes to work with fellow residents and city leaders to continue helping Shamrock grow and thrive.

Two city council seats will be decided in the May election. Those seats are currently held by Russell Killingsworth and Mickey Mitchell, both of whom have filed for reelection.

Candidates listed for the Shamrock City Council race include:

Russell Killingsworth (incumbent)

Mickey Mitchell (incumbent)

James Henderson

Voters will select two council members from the three candidates appearing on the ballot. The election will be held May 2, 2026.
