Beckham County, OK – A woman from Arizona is facing felony charges after authorities say she was found with more than 100 pounds of marijuana during a late-night encounter at an Interstate 40 welcome center in Beckham County.
According to court documents, Brittney Alisha Lewis, 38, of Scottsdale, Arizona, was arrested early Feb. 27 after authorities received information that a woman with multiple felony warrants from Arizona was traveling through Oklahoma. Investigators were reportedly able to track the location of the suspect’s phone as it moved east from the Phoenix area and stopped at the welcome center along Interstate 40 near Erick.
Authorities located a gray 2025 Chevrolet Malibu with Utah license plates parked in the welcome center parking lot shortly before midnight. When officers approached the vehicle and attempted to make contact with the driver, the woman inside reportedly refused repeated commands to exit the vehicle and rolled up the driver’s side window.
After several attempts to get the driver to comply, authorities broke a rear window to gain access to the vehicle. The woman then opened the driver’s door and was taken into custody.
Investigators said the suspect initially identified herself as “Alisha Guzman” and provided a birth date that did not match records. Authorities later located two forms of identification inside the vehicle, including an Arizona driver’s license bearing the name Brittney Alisha Lewis. Fingerprint scans at the Beckham County Jail later confirmed her identity, according to the affidavit.
A search of the vehicle reportedly revealed a strong odor of marijuana. Authorities said they found numerous bags containing individually sealed packages of a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana in the rear passenger area and trunk of the car.
Investigators reported finding 102 individual bags of suspected marijuana inside backpacks, suitcases and duffel bags throughout the vehicle. The total weight of the suspected marijuana was approximately 111.8 pounds.
A small sample of the substance was field tested and reportedly tested positive for tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the primary psychoactive compound in marijuana.
Lewis is charged in Beckham County District Court with trafficking in illegal drugs involving marijuana. Court records indicate the charge is a felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison and fines ranging from $25,000 to $100,000.
Additional allegations include obstructing an officer, falsely impersonating another person and being a fugitive from justice. Authorities said Lewis is also wanted in Arizona on multiple felony warrants.
Court documents show Lewis’ bond has been set at $100,000. The case remains pending in Beckham County District Court.
