Clinton, OK – A Clinton man is facing a felony charge after a high-speed police pursuit through Clinton that ended in a crash north of town.
According to court records, Daydrean James Malone, 33, was charged in Custer County District Court with endangering others while eluding a police officer, a felony. The incident occurred on January 9, 2026.
Clinton police officers reported that shortly before 1 p.m., an officer on patrol observed a blue 2014 Ford Mustang traveling eastbound in the 1700 block of Gary Boulevard at 50 miles per hour in a posted 40 mile per hour zone. When the officer turned around to initiate a traffic stop, the vehicle accelerated at a high rate of speed.
Police say the driver ran multiple red lights at Gary Boulevard and North 15th Street and North 13th Street, nearly striking another vehicle exiting the Homeland parking lot. Officers reported the vehicle crossed the median near North 10th Street to bypass stopped traffic, then nearly collided with two vehicles while turning northbound at North 4th Street.
A second Clinton police officer joined the pursuit as the vehicle continued north at a high rate of speed. Authorities say the pursuit covered approximately 2.5 miles, with officers reaching speeds of up to 112 miles per hour in order to keep pace.
The pursuit ended near U.S. Highway 183 and East 1020 Road, where the Mustang lost control and crashed into a barbed wire fence. The driver, later identified as Malone, was taken into custody without further incident. He was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
Police reported the vehicle did not have valid insurance. Damage was reported to private property. Oklahoma Highway Patrol assisted and worked the crash investigation.
In addition to the felony eluding charge, Malone was also cited for speeding and failure to comply with Oklahoma’s compulsory insurance law.
Court records show the felony charge carries a possible sentence of up to eight years in prison, with a requirement that at least 25 percent of any sentence be served. Malone’s bond was set at $100,000. He is scheduled to appear in Custer County District Court on February 9, 2026.
