Elk City Man Arrested for Meth Trafficking, Faces Up to 20 Years in Prison

An Elk City man is being held in the Beckham County Detention Center on a $40,000 bond after being charged with trafficking methamphetamine and destroying evidence. If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in prison.

The investigation began on December 10, around 9:03 a.m., when an Elk City Police Department officer noticed a vehicle with an allegedly expired tag. The officer activated his emergency lights and initiated a traffic stop.

During the stop, the officer reported seeing what appeared to be methamphetamine on the driver’s seat and flaking off 61-year-old Wilbert Lee Brewer, Junior’s pants.

In the probable cause affidavit, the officer stated that upon searching the vehicle, he found crystal chunks suspected to be methamphetamine on the center console, driver’s seat, driver’s side floorboard, in an ashtray, and between the driver’s seat and center console on the floor.

A second officer reportedly discovered a small bag allegedly used to transport methamphetamine. However, no paraphernalia was found, which the officer stated would typically indicate personal use. This absence, combined with the quantity of the substance, led the officer to suspect that Brewer was attempting to hide the methamphetamine.

The seized methamphetamine reportedly weighed 20.4 grams in solid form, while the suspected liquid methamphetamine weighed 47.8 grams. Brewer’s phone was also confiscated as part of the investigation.

Brewer’s next court appearance is scheduled for January 2.
