The Penny News 318

A Clinton woman, 35-year-old Alicia Ruth Smith, also known as Alicia Ruth Dunn, faces felony and misdemeanor charges following an incident involving a Custer County Deputy on December 13, 2024.

According to court records, Smith has been charged with Battery/Assault and Battery on a Police Officer, a felony under 21 O.S. § 649(B), and Obstructing an Officer, a misdemeanor under 21 O.S. § 540.

The District Attorney's office alleges that Smith unlawfully struck a deputy in the face with her right fist and bit the deputy’s hand and finger with the intent to cause harm. The charges further state that Smith refused to comply with commands, tucked her arms under her body, and attempted to flee the scene, interfering with the deputy’s duties.

If convicted, Smith could face up to 5 years in prison and a fine of up to $500 for the felony charge, while the misdemeanor carries a potential sentence of up to 1 year in jail and a fine of up to $500.

The case is set to proceed in Custer County District Court, with Angela C. Marsee, District Attorney for the State of Oklahoma, representing the prosecution. Smith's legal counsel has not been disclosed at this time.
