Elk City Residents to Vote on Key Propositions in Upcoming Election

The Penny News 317

Elk City residents will head to the polls on January 14, 2025, to vote on two significant propositions. These measures will shape the management of city resources and services for years to come.

Proposition No. 1 focuses on the use of revenue generated from the sale, marketing, and production of oil, gas, and other minerals owned by the City of Elk City. If approved, 100% of these funds will be deposited into a Sinking Fund, managed by the Elk City Public Works Authority. This fund will be renamed the "Infrastructure Endowment Fund," with 80% of interest accrued designated for street, water, and sewer improvements, while the principal amount remains intact to grow over time.

Proposition No. 2 seeks voter approval for Ordinance No. 1267, granting a 25-year franchise to One Gas, Inc., through its Oklahoma Natural Gas Company Division, for operating a natural gas distribution system within Elk City.

In addition to the propositions, voters in Precinct 050332 should note a change in polling location. The polling place has been moved from Elk City First Christian Church to Elk City United Methodist Church, located at 720 West Country Club Boulevard. This change is effective immediately, with the January 14 election being the first held at the new location.

For questions or further information, residents can contact the Beckham County Election Board at 580-928-3314 or beckhamcounty@elections.ok.gov. The board's office is at 306 E. Main St., Sayre, and operates Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

The outcomes of these propositions are expected to have lasting effects on the city's infrastructure and natural gas services. Voters are encouraged to participate in this important election.
