Burns Flat, OK – Washita County’s aeronautical artists are getting to work on a high-flying canvas.
The first of five Delta Air Lines airplanes landed at Burns Flat’s Premium Aerospace Center (PAC) Oklahoma runway for a fresh coat of paint.
The Boeing 757 will be painted in PAC’s new, state-of-the-art Hangar 234.
“Hangar 234 is a paint hangar with a ventilation system that has 100% air exchange every 10 minutes with the ability to reach temperatures up to 120 degrees to help the paint curing process,” said PAC Accountable Manager Jose Gonzalez.
The job will take 15 days to complete.
Four more of Delta’s Boeing 757s are also scheduled for painting at PAC this year.
“Delta pilots will return to Burns Flat with the next aircraft to be painted and then fly the freshly-painted plane to the next destination,” Gonzalez said.
The crew painting the Delta airplanes will be a mix of experienced personnel originally from other areas who will train less-experienced locals as they begin aviation careers in Washita County.
Gonzalez reached out to Delta before PAC’s inception to ensure that work would be available prior to expansion and investment dollars were spent.
PAC operates in Burns Flat at historic Clinton-Sherman Air Force Base, which, as a Strategic Air Command base, housed nuclear-armed B-52 Bombers during the most dangerous years of the Cold War. It also boasts one of the longest runways in the country.
