Hollis, OK – A Hollis woman has been charged after authorities say she struck and killed a pedestrian on U.S. Highway 62 on Saturday, Feb. 14.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, 80 year old Sara Romo Lopez was driving westbound on U.S. 62 when her vehicle hit 54 year old Janara Rebecca Musgrave, who was walking along the north shoulder of the highway.

Musgrave would die the following day from her injuries.

Troopers reported that Lopez left the scene after the collision. During the investigation, a family member told authorities that Lopez claimed she struck a bridge west of Hollis that same day.

Investigators later examined the vehicle at Lopez’s home. Troopers noted significant damage to the right front fender, headlight, and windshield. During an interview, Lopez allegedly told officers that she hit a bridge about one mile west of Hollis and did not stop.

Court records state that when asked for her driver’s license, Lopez was only able to provide a state identification card and did not have a valid driver’s license.

After Musgrave’s death was confirmed, investigators inspected bridges from Hollis to the Texas state line and found no signs of damage.

Based on the investigation, Lopez was charged with first degree manslaughter and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, both felonies. She also faces a misdemeanor charge for operating a motor vehicle without a license.
