Burns Flat, OK – Oklahoma investigators say a helicopter paramedic and EMS director stole morphine and fentanyl she was supposed to administer to patients, and now faces possible prison time.
Court documents identify her as 44-year-old nurse Jessica Suzanne Perriman of Burns Flat. She is charged with two counts of stealing a controlled dangerous substance from both Survival Flight and the Burns Flat EMS District, where she served as director.
The Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics opened the case in February after nurses at Survival Flight’s Altus helicopter base reported that every vial of fentanyl and morphine in their narcotics safe appeared tampered with. Staff told investigators the vials showed puncture marks in the caps and fluid levels that didn’t match.
Nurses also reported concerns about Perriman’s behavior, saying she had recently arrived to shifts groggy, mumbling, and at times unable to perform basic tasks. In one incident, a pilot said he had to reject an emergency call because he couldn’t wake her. In another, a pilot reported she was slurring and confused during a patient pickup flight.
When investigators learned Perriman was also the director at Burns Flat EMS, they checked the narcotics safe there and found 26 additional vials of morphine and fentanyl with similar signs of tampering. When a coworker called Perriman for the safe code as investigators watched, she reportedly replied, “I’m going to jail,” and hung up.
The vials were sent to the OSBI lab, which found inconsistent weights and one vial containing a mixture of morphine and Benadryl.
Bond is set at 50,000 dollars.
Her next court date is December 15.
