CAMPBELL GARBARINO COMMITS TO OKLAHOMA STATE

One of if not the most decorated track athlete in the history of Elk City High School has made her decision on where she’ll continue her track career in college. This morning Elk City Sr. Campbell Garbarino announced via Instagram that she’s keeping her talents in state and heading to Stillwater to be an Ok State Cowgirl. Garbarino’s accomplishments are vast heading into her Sr. year on the track. As a sophomore Campbell was the State Champion in the 100M hurdles, 300M hurdles, and the Long Jump. Last year as a Junior she won her second straight gold medal in the 300M hurdles, was a part of the 4X200M relay that not only won the gold but also set the State record with a time of 1:40.8. She was 3rd in the 100M and also 3rd as a part of the 4X400M relay team. She holds school records in the 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles, 100 meters individually as well as being apart of the school record holding 4X100, 4X200, and 4X400 meter relays. If my memory serves correctly, she’s the first female athlete from Elk City to commit to a Division 1 school in any sport in the last 20 years. She’s the first athlete overall to go D-1 since Cade Davis in 2007. Congratulation to Campbell Garbarino on her commitment to Oklahoma State to run track.

HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL TONIGHT

Week 8 on the high school football schedule is upon us this evening. District title and playoff spot races are heating up with only 3 weeks left in the regular season. In Class 4A’s District 1, Elk City will hit the road to OKC to face Douglass. The Elks are coming off their first win of the season last week in a non district game against US Grant. If you aren’t making the trip up to OK City tonight no worries we’ve got you covered with live video streaming on bigelktv.com or the radio coverage available on kool94. Pregame will get going at 6:20 ahead of the 7:00 kick. Elsewhere around the district, Wford can wrap up the district title with a win at Cache. Clinton and Bethany will play at the Tornado Bowl with the inside track to second in the district and a home playoff game on the line. Down in Class A Div 1 Dist 1, we get the Battle for Beckham Co out at Merritt with Sayre making the quick trip east down I-40. The Eagles are back in the hunt for a playoff spot after beating Hinton last week. Merritt’s still looking for their first district win and an upset in this rivalry game would be sweet for the Oilers. If you can’t make it out to Merritt tonight no worries we’ve got ya covered there as well with the live video stream on Paragontv. Kickoff between the Oilers and Eagles is also at 7:00. Elsewhere in the district, Tonkawa hosts Fairview in the first of a few games that will decide the district title. Crescent hosts Hinton. Watonga heads to Hooker.

In other high school football action around the area, Carnegie hosts Mooreland, Mangum goes to Frederick, Hobart hosts Thomas, MVG welcomes Snyder

WORLD SERIES GAME 1 TONIGHT

For the first time since 1982 the Milwaukee Brewers will host a World Series game tonight with Game 1 on tap against Tampa’s Rays. Neither franchise has ever won a World Series in their histories. The starters for tonight’s first game will be Nick Martinez for the Rays opposite of the young flame throwing Brewer Jacob Misiorowski. First pitch in Milwaukee is scheduled for 7.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL WEEKEND

It’s not the greatest slate of games this weekend on the college football gridiron. Oklahoma State will host Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes for America’s Greatest Homecoming in Stillwater. Both teams are coming off narrow losses a week ago and are looking to bounce back within the Big 12 Conference. Kickoff for Pokes/Buffs is tomorrow night at 6. For the first time in history the Oklahoma Sooners will play a football game against the miss St Bulldogs. Both team suffered losses a week ago within the SEC. You can hear Sooners/Bulldogs tomorrow afternoon on KOOL94. Pregame gets rolling at 11:30 ahead of the 2:30 kick.

THUNDER WIN; SGA’S STREAK ENDS

The Ok City Thunder improved to 2-0 in the early portion of the NBA season last night inside Paycom Center. OKC used a stifling second half defense to pull away from the Denver Nuggets for a 96-84 win. The Thunder held Nikola Jokic to 13 while Aaron Gordon led Denver with 20. J Dub had 21 in the win for OKC. Shai Gilgeous Alexander struggled to only a 17 point output snapping his NBA record for consecutive 20 point games at 141 straight. Ok City gets a couple nights off before a home back to back against the Clippers on Sunday and phoenix on Monday
