NBA SEASON OPENS TODAY

It’s hard to believe but the NBA season opens today, and we’ve already had a game played with a matinee in Detroit. The hometown Pistons, who won the most games last regular season in the Eastern Conference, welcomed the Boston Celtics for their season opener. Boston led 58-45 at halftime, but the Pistons roared back in the second half outscoring the Celts 76-55 to win 121-113. Paul George was great in his Celtics debut with 38. Cade Cunningham, Jalen Duran, and Duncan Robinson all had 20 plus for Detroit.

We get a doubleheader tonight as well. It’s ring night inside Madison Square Garden with the hometown defending champion New York Knicks hosting LeBron James at the Philadelphia 76ers. That one tips at 6:00. The Oklahoma City Thunder open the season tonight as well with a Western Conference Finals rematch in San Antonio against the Spurs. OKC will try to get a little bit of revenge against Wemby and San Antone after the Spurs won Game 7 in Oklahoma City a year ago. You can hear Thunder/Spurs tonight on 98.1fm and 1240 am. Pregame will start at 7 ahead of the scheduled 8:30 tip.

WORLD SERIES SET

We have a World Series matchup set after last night’s Game 6 in the American League Championship Series. The Tampa Bay Rays knocked out the Cleveland Guardians with a 7-3 Game 6 win at the Trop last night. Tampa wins the ALCS 4 games to 2 and now heads to Milwaukee for Game 1 of the World Series Friday night. It’s a little guy World Series for the first time in a while. Milwaukee has the 19th highest payroll in Major League Baseball. Tampa’s 28th out of 30. It’s the second time the Brewers have been in the World Series, first since 1982. The Rays are in the Fall Classic for the 3rd time in franchise history. No matter the result, one of the two will win their first World Series in either franchises history.
