STATE TOURNAMENT RESULTS

Fast pitch softball and fall baseball semifinals hit the field today in Shawnee. In the Class A Fast Pitch tournament, the defending champion AB Lady Indians punched their ticket into tomorrow’s state finals with an 11-1 run rule win over Drummond. For the second straight day, Lauren McHenry got the win in the circle going all 5 innings while giving up a run on 3 hits with 7 strikeouts and a walk. She also went 3 for 3 for the second straight day at the plate. Things got started early for AB after Kaylee Brinkely smoked a first inning grand slam. Brinkley had a pair of hits knocking in 5. AB will play for the title tomorrow morning at 11 against Okarche. The Lady Warriors outlasted Wister 4-2 in 12 innings this afternoon.

In the Class A Fall Baseball semifinals this afternoon at Shawnee HS, #1 Rattan slipped past #3 Canute 3-0. Boston Baker threw a gem for the Trojans giving up 3 unearned runs on two hits with 9 strikeouts but 5 walks. Reid Carlson had the lone hit for Canute. Rattan’s opponent in the finals is still to be determined. Last night #2 Navajo overcame an 8-1 deficit with 4 runs in the 4th and 5 in the 6th to defeat Verden 10-8. This afternoon Navajo leads Wright City 4-1 in the bottom of the 3rd inning.

Last night the Merritt Oilerettes put up a valiant effort in the Class 2A Fast Pitch quarterfinals against Warner. The game went to the 7th inning tied at zero before Warner finally broke through with 4 runs to win 4-0

VOLLEYBALL REGIONALS

Weatherford hosted a 4A Regional in volleyball yesterday. The Lady Eagles swept Clinton in 3 sets in the semifinals 25-5, 25-6, 25-12. In the other semifinal, Bethany swept Cache in 3 sets. The finals was a barnburner. Bethany took the first set 25-17, Wford answered with wins in the 2nd and 3rd set 25-22 and 25-23. Bethany took the 4th set 25-17 to set up an intense final set for a trip to the state tournament. Wford answered the bell at home with a 15-10 5th set win and punched their ticket into next week’s 4A Volleyball State Tournament for the second straight season.

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS

Week 6 of the high school football season kicksoff in most locations across the state of Oklahoma tonight. The Elk City Elks are looking for their first win of the season with the undefeated Weatherford Eagles. The Elks have won 3 of the last 5 in the series, but Wford’s won the last two by identical 28-21 scores. If you can’t make it out to Big Elk Stadium tonight no worries we’ll have you covered on Mass Band Night with live video streaming on bigelktv as well as radio coverage on kool94. Pregame gets crankin at 6:20 with the kickoff scheduled for 7. Elsewhere in district 4A-1, Woodward comes to the Tornado Bowl to face Clinton. Cache heads to Douglass.

We’ve got Class A Division 1 District 1 football action tonight on Paragontv.com. The merritt oilers head north to take on the Fairview Yellowjackets. Elsewhere in that district, Sayre’s at Tonkawa, Crescent hosts Hooker, Hinton welcomes Watonga.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL WEEKEND

The in state schools have different challenges this weekend on the college football gridiron. Oklahoma State looks to avoid the rat poison as a double digit favorite at home against a beat up Central Florida team. Kickoff at Stillwater is scheduled for 11. The annual trek to Dallas for Oklahoma across the Red River is this weekend with the Sooners in the Cotton Bowl taking on Texas. The Horns are 4-0 ranked #1 in the country while Oklahoma limps across the Red River with a putrid offense and 2-2 record. You can hear it live on kool94.
