RESULTS FROM THE
FIRST WEEK OF DISTRICT FOOTBALL GAMES
The first week of district games was played on the high
school football gridiron Friday night all across the Great State of Oklahoma. The
Elk City Elks hosted the Cache Bulldogs in 4A District 1. Elk City jumped out
to a 14-0 first half lead, but couldn’t quite hold on as Cache came back to win
27-21. Both teams amassed over 300 yards of offense with Cache scoring on more touchdown
to win. The Elks fall to 0-4, 0-1 in the district while Cache improves to 4-1,
1-0 in 4A-1. Elsewhere around the district Wford bludgeoned Douglass 54-0.
Bethany got a late field goal to beat Woodward 10-7.
Down in Class A-1 District 1, both Beckham county schools
hit the road for tough games in northern Oklahoma. The Merritt Oilers went to
#1 Tonkawa and fell to the Bucs 60-0. Sayre was in Fairview to face the
Yellowjackets. Fairview was too much for the Eagles in a 56-26 win. Crescent popped
Watonga 46-6. Hooker hammered Hinton 55-13.
In other football action across Western Oklahoma, Mangum
edged Wynnewood in a battle of Top 5 teams 31-28. Hobart went to SW Covenant
and won 32-11. Hollis traveled north and topped Laverne 38-14. BFDC edged
Cordell 22-6, CBA was shutout by Timberlake 46-0, Sharon-Mutual blanked Geary
46-0, Empire whipped Mooreland 34-0, MVG fell to Rush Springs 24-22, Weeletka
hammered Seiling 52-6, Thomas shutout Apache 42-0
REGIONAL ASSIGNMENTS
FOR FAST PITCH AND FALL BASEBALL ANNOUNCED
The Regional and Super Regional assignments were handed out
by the OSSAA for this week’s Fast pitch and fall baseball tournaments. In Class
4A Regionals, Elk City travels down to Lone Grove with in a 3 team regional
with Lone Grove and Bridge Creek. The Elkettes will play Bridge Creek tomorrow
afternoon at 4 then Lone Grove to follow at 6:00. You can catch it all live on
bigelktv.com. Clinton travels to Newcastle. They’ll play Cache with Newcastle
and Ardmore the other two in that regional. Woodward will host a regional.
Woodward plays Anadarko with Byng and Perkins/Tryon the other two there
starting Wednesday. Wford heads to Plainview. They’ll play Chickasha first with
Plainview drawing Seminole. That regional starts tomorrow. Class 2A is in the
Super Regional round. Hobart will play at Tushka while the Merritt Oilerettes
get a home date with Dibble. Merritt and Dibble will play tomorrow. Down in
Class A AB will host. The defending champs get Elmore City-Pernell first with
Carnegie taking on Davenport as well. That regional starts tomorrow. Canute’s
also a host. They draw Healdton first with Shattuck taking on Navajo in the
other game. That one starts tomorrow. C-R’s hosting. The Lady Bears play Turpin
first with Union City taking on Seiling. H-E heads to Cyril. They play PPV
while Cyril takes on Turner. In Class B L-S is hosting. They draw Dover. Hammon
and Calumet are the other two in that regional. Leedey’s a host. That regional
will start Wednesday with Leedey taking on Beaver. Arnett and Granite are the
other two teams.
Fall baseball is in the regional round as well. In Class A
Navajo will host. They play Battiest/Stuart first with Stonewall and Union City
the other two there. Canute’s hosting. They’ll play Verden first with Wister
taking on Am-Po in the other game. AB heads to Wright City. The Indians tangle
with H-E first. Wright City takes on Okarche. In Class B FCB is a host. The
Mustangs get Mill Creek in the first round. Drummond and Asher are the other
two. The Tupelo regional has been moved up to tomorrow. Hammon’s there taking
on Moss with Tupelo and Pittsburgh the other two. Calumet’s regional will also
start tomorrow. The Chieftains play Roff while Vici gets Coleman. Leedey’s also
hosting. They’ll play Red Oak in the first game. Soper and Dover are the other
two teams in that regional.
COLLEGE FOOTBALL
WEEKEND
It’s was a mixed bag of results this weekend for the in
state schools on the college football gridiron. Oklahoma State went to West
Virginia and knocked off the Mountaineers 41-24. OSU trailed 24-21 with 4
minutes left in the 3rd quarter before mashing the gas and pulling
away to win. QB Drew Mestemaker completed 20-27 for 389 with 3 TDS and a pick.
RB Caleb Hawkins toted the rock 31 times for 180 yards and a score. With the
win Oklahoma State improves to 3-1 and makes their debut in the AP top 25 at
#19. The Pokes get the week off before welcoming UCF to Boone Pickens the
following week.
It was pretty much over before it started for Oklahoma in
Athens against Georgia. Georgia was already up 14-0 when Sooners QB John Mateer
fumbled the ball without getting hit on Georgia’s 10 yard line. 90 yards later
it was 21-0 Dawgs in what eventually became a 41-13 Georgia shellacking of the
Sooners. Mateer went 25/34 for 231 with 2 TDs a pick and two lost fumbles. The
Sooners fall to 2-2 with an off week before the Red River Shootout against
Texas next week.
