HIGH SCHOOL STUFF
The final week of Non-district high school football games was
played last Friday night. The Merritt Oilers went to Thomas to face the
Terriers. Merritt played tough but ultimately dropped their first game this
season 27-6 to Thomas.
Elsewhere around Western Oklahoma, Altus beat Eisenhower
44-21, Shattuck beat up on BFDC 56-12, Clinton came back to clip Durant 28-21,
Wford pounded Duncan 49-7, Hinton fell to SW Covenant 34-13, Hobart got the
better of Tishimingo 34-3, Hollis edged MVG 26-6, Sayre hammered Mooreland
30-6, Sharon-Mutual blanked Ringwood 60-0, and Woodward blitzed John Marshall
46-12.
COLLEGE FOOTBALL
WEEKEND
It was a tale of two teams for the in state schools on the
college football gridiron this past weekend. Oklahoma St played host to Murray State
and did exactly what they were supposed to do. The Cowboys scored early and
often in a 59-0 pantsing of the Racers. QB Drew Mestemaker was fantastic
completing 20/22 for 324 yards and 5 passing TDs. The Pokes threw it for 361
and ran it for 301 in the win. Things were completely different in Norman. The
Sooners struggled throughout to move the football against New Mexico’s Lobos.
Oklahoma led 7-6 at halftime and were only able to muster a single second half
TD in a 14-6 win. QB John Mateer only completed 19/25 for just 238 yards with 2
TDs and 2 Picks. OU only ran it for 61 yards on 323 attempts. Both teams will
begin conference play on the road this coming weekend. Ok State will face West
Virginia in Morgantown while OU will head between the Hedges in Athens to play
Georgia.
NFL WEEKEND
Week 2 of the NFL schedule will come to an end tonight with
the Giants at the Rams for Monday night football. So far this week we’ve seen
Buffalo outscore Detroit 41-31, Carolina mauled Atlanta 34-3, Cincinnati held
off Houston 20-6, Cleveland outlasted Tampa Bay 23-19, Green Bay came back to
beat the Jets in OT 20-17, Minnesota won a low scoring affair 9-3 against
Chicago, New Orleans upended Buffalo 24-17, Philly held off Tennessee 24-20,
New England handled Pittsburgh 20-3, Denver clipped Jacksonville 20-13, The
Raiders got the better of the Chargers 26-14, San Francisco got all over Miami
35-13, Seattle dismantled Arizona 31-7, Dallas got all over Washington 37-20,
and KC topped Indianapolis in OT 33-30
RYDER COWAN LEADS OUT
TO 2ND PLACE FINISH, WINS THE INDIVIDUAL TITLE IN MINNESOTA
Former Elk City native Ryder Cowan has picked up where he
left off this summer on the golf course. After finishing as the Low Amateur at
this summer’s US Open, Ryder has began his senior season at OU with a bang. He
finished 2nd a week ago at Iverness before polishing off a win this
afternoon at the Gopher Classic in Minnesota. Ryder fired rounds of 72-63-65 to
finish 13 under, 6 clear of Georgia’s Mason Howell. It’s his 3rd career individual
win for the Sooners.
