Deputies stage at county line as Roger Mills incident ends safely

Roger Mills County, OK – Beckham County deputies positioned at the Roger Mills County line late Friday after a report of a man firing from a vehicle with an AR-style rifle.

Sheriff Derek Manning said he mobilized six or seven deputies, including himself, to be ready to assist. “We immediately sent as many people as we could, and we ended up holding at the county line,” Manning said. “Roger Mills County located the man at his residence and were able to get him mental health assistance and bring it to a safe resolution.”

Manning credited Roger Mills County Sheriff Darren Atha and his team for handling the call. He said several game rangers and a couple of troopers also responded in a standby role.

No injuries were reported. Beckham County units did not enter Roger Mills County, Manning said. The residence involved was close to the county line.
