Erick Man Arrested After High-Speed Chase in Elk City

Elk City, OK – An Erick man is facing charges after allegedly leading law enforcement on a high-speed motorcycle pursuit through Elk City earlier this month.

Authorities say 23-year-old Ethan Melton was spotted riding a black Harley Davidson motorcycle on August 17 and refused to stop when officers attempted a traffic stop on the I-40 eastbound on-ramp. The chase reportedly reached speeds of 120 miles per hour, with Melton weaving in and out of traffic before abandoning the motorcycle near Granite Landing apartments.

Investigators say Melton then fled in a black Jeep Cherokee before abandoning that vehicle and attempting to run on foot. After a brief search, he was located near a local retail store, where he was taken into custody without further incident.

Melton was booked into the Beckham County Jail on complaints of attempting to elude law enforcement and escape from arrest or detention. Bond was set at $15,000.

His next court date is scheduled for September 8.
