Elk City Firefighters Extinguish Garage Fire on Standifer Drive

The Penny News 806

Elk City, OK – Elk City firefighters were called to the 800 block of Standifer Drive around 2 p.m. Thursday after reports of a garage fire.

Crews quickly located and extinguished the blaze, limiting the damage to minimal levels. Investigators determined the fire was caused by a faulty dryer line. No injuries were reported, and no residents were displaced.

The Elk City Fire Department used the incident as an opportunity to remind residents about dryer safety. Officials advised cleaning the lint trap before every use, ensuring the dryer is properly vented with a secure outside vent hose, and keeping dryers in good condition with regular professional inspections, especially for gas units.

They also encouraged homeowners to turn dryers off before leaving the house or going to bed.

The department noted they remain “always here and always ready” to respond.
