Yankees Fight to Stay Alive in the World Series
The New York Yankees managed to keep their World Series dreams alive last night with a win at home against the Los Angeles Dodgers. In a game full of drama and records, the Yankees avoided elimination and forced a Game 5.
Freddie Freeman’s Record-Breaking Night
Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman had a historic performance, hitting a two-run home run in the first inning. This marked Freeman’s sixth consecutive World Series game with a home run—a new record. Freeman also became the first player to homer in the first four games of a World Series and is the only player with 10 RBIs in the first four games of any World Series.
Anthony Volpe’s Grand Slam Turns the Game
After trimming the Dodgers' lead to 2-1, Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe delivered a game-changing moment in the third inning. With the bases loaded, Volpe hit a grand slam, his first of the series and the first Yankees World Series grand slam since Tino Martinez in 1998. This hit helped propel the Yankees to an 11-4 victory.
Yankees Face Historic Odds in Game 5
With the series standing at 3-1 in favor of the Dodgers, the Yankees face a daunting challenge. Only three teams have forced a Game 5 after being down 3-0, and no team has won both Games 4 and 5. Yankees ace Gerrit Cole will start on the mound tonight, facing off against the Dodgers’ Jack Flaherty.
