SWOSU Music Academy Now Enrolling for Fall 2025 Term

The Penny News 765

Weatherford, OK – Enrollment is now open for the Fall 2025 term of the Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU) Music Academy, a growing program that connects young musicians with quality instruction and performance opportunities. Classes begin September 8 and run through mid-November, with a final performance scheduled for Sunday, November 16 at 2 p.m. The deadline to register is August 25, and scholarship applications are due by August 15.

The Music Academy offers group and private music instruction for students ages 3 and up, with options for all skill levels. It provides access to high-quality music instruction in both group and private settings. This fall’s schedule includes a mix of returning favorites and new additions, all taught by experienced SWOSU faculty, music alumni, and supervised junior faculty.

Group classes include Preschool Pups with Elizabeth Edge (ages 3–4), Rhythm Rovers with Tiffany Ragan (kindergarten and 1st grade), Music & Art with Kathleen Jung (grades 1–3), and the Music Theater Skills Workshop with Dr. Lesley Friend (grades 5–12). A new ensemble, the Festival Youth Orchestra (grades 3–8), will debut under the direction of Dr. Alex Lee.

These weekly classes are tailored to support early music development, creativity, and performance experience in a structured but engaging environment.

The academy also offers private and adaptive lessons, including flexible package options to accommodate different schedules and budgets. Lessons are open to all ages and skill levels and are taught by SWOSU’s junior faculty, music students who receive direct guidance from university professors. Adaptive lessons are available for students who benefit from music therapy-informed instruction.

High school juniors and seniors interested in pursuing music at the collegiate level may register for College Prep lessons taught by SWOSU Music Faculty. These sessions focus on audition preparation and technical refinement. Space is limited and lessons are scheduled based on instructor availability.

The SWOSU Music Academy serves as an important training ground for future musicians and a valuable resource for families seeking arts education in western Oklahoma. Full registration details, class schedules, pricing, and scholarship applications are available at bit.ly/swosuacademy.

The academy is co-directed by Chrissy Hagood and Kathleen Jung. For questions, contact Hagood at chrisalyne.hagood@swosu.edu or Jung at kathleen.jung@swosu.edu. The academy office can also be reached by phone at 580-774-3182.
