SWOSU Press Release

Weatherford, OK – Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU) has announced the receipt of a major charitable contribution from the Jim & Tanya Mitschke Family of Owasso.

Mitschke is a 1964 SWOSU Alumnus who was highly decorated for his service in the United States Army. Mitschke served in the Vietnam War as Captain of an AH-1 Cobra Gunship where he earned the Silver Star among multiple other decorations and commendations.

Mitschke and his wife, Tanya, are longtime SWOSU benefactors and supporters. They are the proud parents of:

  • James Mitschke, married to Casey (Montgomery), parents of two little boys, James E. III “Tres” Mitschke and Callam Cross Mitschke. James is a petroleum engineer and Casey works in construction management in the Dallas area; and,

  • Sarah Mitschke, who works in Denver for a national healthcare consulting firm.

The Mitschke Family’s generosity will allow SWOSU to establish the Mitschke Family Endowed Scholarship Fund. The fund will benefit SWOSU students who are participating in the SWOSU Football program.

Jim was a proud member of the SWOSU Football team during his time as a SWOSU student; he was honored to be selected by his teammates to serve as Team Co-Captain during his senior season.

We are deeply grateful to the Mitschke Family for this wonderful gift,” said SWOSU President Dr. Diana R. Lovell. “The scholarships that we will be able to provide to SWOSU Football thanks to the kindness of the Mitschke will benefit our student-athletes immensely.”

The Mitschke Family Scholarship Fund is stewarded by the SWOSU Foundation, Inc. An independent institutionally-related charitable entity headquartered on the SWOSU Campus in the historic Burton House, the Foundation was established in 1977 to promote philanthropy, award scholarships and distribute funds to support the activities and programs of SWOSU.
