Elk City, OK — A California man is facing felony charges in Beckham County following a traffic stop that led to a significant drug bust on I-40.

According to a probable cause affidavit, 31-year-old Anastacio Obregon-Izazaga of Hemet, California was pulled over on March 17 near mile marker 38 for speeding. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper reported the gray Hyundai Sonata was traveling 75 in a 70 mph zone when he noticed the driver slouching in his seat, apparently trying to avoid detection.

The vehicle eventually came to a stop in the parking lot of a T-Mobile store after failing to immediately yield. The defendant was seen removing a bill from his hat in what the trooper described as a nervous manner. A conversation revealed Obregon-Izazaga was only receiving a warning.

However, further investigation, including a K9 alert, led to a search of the vehicle. Authorities discovered a large jar containing 1,000ml of raw THC oil hidden in a suitcase in the trunk. A vehicle air freshener was also located inside the suitcase, believed to be an attempt to mask the scent from the K9 unit.

Obregon-Izazaga was arrested and booked into the Beckham County Jail on charges of unlawful possession of a controlled drug with intent to distribute. Bond was set at $30,000. His next court appearance is scheduled for March 31.
