Sayre, OK — A suspect wanted in connection with a domestic disturbance involving a firearm in Greer County was arrested in Sayre over the weekend following a coordinated effort between multiple law enforcement agencies.
According to Beckham County Sheriff Derek Manning, Greer County authorities contacted his office during the early morning hours after receiving a report of a domestic disturbance in which a firearm was allegedly discharged.
Manning said initial information indicated a shot had been fired into the ceiling, but no injuries were reported.
Authorities believed the suspect was traveling north toward Beckham County, possibly heading to Sayre. The Beckham County Sheriff's Office notified the Sayre Police Department of the situation.
One of Manning's deputies later located the suspect's vehicle traveling north into Sayre near the city park.
With assistance from Sayre police officers, deputies conducted a felony traffic stop and took the individual into custody without incident.
Manning confirmed the person arrested was the suspect sought by Greer County authorities. Greer County officials subsequently took custody of the individual.
The sheriff said the incident highlights the importance of cooperation and communication between neighboring law enforcement agencies.
"Before I got into this profession, I underappreciated how much that occurs, and now I can't appreciate it enough because it's helpful having partners that you can count on," Manning said.
He emphasized that reliable communication and mutual trust between agencies are essential when responding to incidents that cross county lines.
"When you get the information, you know you can trust it. When you give the information, you know they're going to take you seriously," Manning said. "That's a big deal for us."
The suspect's identity and any formal charges were not immediately provided.
