Oklahoma City, OK – Unemployment rates declined in August across Beckham, Custer, Washita, Roger Mills and Greer counties, following the statewide trend of lower unemployment compared with July.
Among the five western Oklahoma counties, Greer County recorded the highest unemployment rate in August at 3.8 percent. Beckham County followed at 3.7 percent, while Custer County reported 3.2 percent.
Roger Mills and Washita counties each recorded unemployment rates of 2.9 percent.
The local rates were all below Oklahoma's August non-seasonally adjusted unemployment rate of 4.1 percent, according to data from the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission.
Statewide, unemployment rates declined in all 77 counties from July to August. However, the year-over-year picture remained less favorable, with unemployment rates higher than August 2025 in 72 of Oklahoma's 77 counties.
Oklahoma's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate stood at 4.3 percent in August. More than 85,000 Oklahomans were unemployed during the month, nearly 16,000 more than a year earlier.
The August county figures were released Sept. 30 by the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission.
