Archer Elected Chairman of The Energy Council

Albuquerque, NM – Oklahoma State Rep. Nick Archer of Elk City has been elected chairman of The Energy Council for the 2026-27 term, giving a western Oklahoma lawmaker a leadership role in an organization representing major energy-producing states and Canadian provinces.

Archer announced the election following The Energy Council’s annual meeting in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He served as vice chairman during the previous year under Louisiana Rep. Chris Turner.

“I’m honored to have been elected Chairman of The Energy Council for 2026-2027 at our annual meeting in Albuquerque,” Archer said in announcing the new role. “Oklahoma has a lot to bring to the national energy conversation, and I’m excited to help lead it.”

The Energy Council is a nonpartisan legislative organization made up of 14 energy-producing states and the Canadian provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan. Founded in 1975, the organization provides a forum for lawmakers to discuss energy markets, infrastructure, technology, environmental policy and other issues affecting energy-producing regions.

Archer’s move into the chairmanship was anticipated when he was elected vice chairman at the council’s 2025 annual meeting in Anchorage, Alaska. At that time, the Oklahoma House of Representatives announced that Archer was scheduled to move into the chairman’s position for 2026-27. Archer has been a member of The Energy Council since 2021 and joined its Executive Committee in 2025.

The new position adds to Archer’s energy-related responsibilities in Oklahoma. He chairs the Oklahoma House Energy Committee and has served on the House Energy and Natural Resources Oversight Committee.

Archer, a Republican from Elk City, has represented House District 55 since 2022. The district includes portions of Beckham, Blaine, Caddo, Canadian and Washita counties and communities including Elk City, Canute, Burns Flat, Cordell, Hydro and portions of El Reno. Before joining the Legislature, Archer served two terms as mayor of Elk City.

His selection places an Oklahoma legislator at the head of an organization focused specifically on policy issues affecting energy-producing regions across North America.
