Arapaho, OK – Two people were injured in a two-vehicle collision Friday morning on U.S. Highway 183 in Custer County.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 11:26 a.m. Friday, Sept. 25, near County Road 980, 1 mile north of Arapaho.

Troopers reported that both vehicles were traveling north on U.S. 183 when a vehicle driven by 84-year-old Peggy A. Winstead of Weatherford slowed and pulled onto the shoulder. Winstead then attempted to make a U-turn to travel south on U.S. 183.

A second vehicle, driven by 59-year-old Richard P. Stokes of Lawton, was traveling behind Winstead and was unable to avoid the collision. Stokes' vehicle struck Winstead's vehicle, and both vehicles left the roadway to the right.

Winstead was injured and transported by Air Evac to OU Medical Center.

Stokes was also injured and was transported by Sinor EMS to a Clinton hospital, where he was treated and released.

OHP reported that both drivers were wearing seat belts. Neither vehicle had passengers.
