Kiowa County, OK – A Mountain View man died following a paraglider accident Wednesday evening at Tom Steed Reservoir in Kiowa County.
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the incident occurred at approximately 6:55 p.m. Thursday, September 24, on the south end of Tom Steed Reservoir, about two and a half miles north of Mountain Park.
OHP identified the victim as 50-year-old Jason Ray Laird of Mountain View.
According to the report, Laird was flying over the reservoir in a paraglider when the engine failed, causing him to fall into the water.
Bystanders recovered Laird from the water. He was transported by Survival Flight to Jackson County Memorial Hospital in Altus, where he later died.
OHP reported that a personal flotation device was not in use at the time of the incident. Weather conditions were clear.
The cause of the incident remains under investigation by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
