Rocky, OK – A woman was safely evacuated from her home Tuesday evening before a fast-moving wildfire overtook the property about four miles east of Rocky in Washita County.
The Calvary Creek wildfire reportedly began near State Highway 55 on September 15 and quickly moved north approximately a quarter-mile. The fire damaged power lines before reaching the residence, which became fully engulfed in flames.
Firefighters were able to alert the woman living in the home and get her to safety before the fire reached the residence.
Washita County departments responding included Bessie, Corn, Colony, Rocky, Sentinel, Cloud Chief, Burns Flat, Dill City and Cordell.
The Kiowa County Task Force was also requested to assist. Responding departments from Kiowa County included Gotebo, Lone Wolf, Hobart, Saddle Mountain, Snyder, Cooperton, Mountain View, Sedan, Hicks Mountain and Roosevelt.
The Oklahoma Forestry Service provided additional ground and air support during the response.
The cause of the Calvary Creek wildfire has not been determined or released. Officials have also not confirmed what caused the fire to spread so quickly.
