Woodward Man Killed in Pedestrian Collision Near Seiling

Dewey County, OK – A Woodward man was killed late Thursday night after being struck by a commercial motor vehicle on U.S. Highway 270 in Dewey County.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the collision occurred at approximately 11:35 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, on U.S. 270 near County Road 2360, about 11 miles southeast of Seiling.

Troopers reported that a commercial vehicle driven by 56-year-old Randall E. Kilhefner of Clearfield, Utah, was traveling southbound on U.S. 270 when it struck 62-year-old John W. Hughes of Woodward.

According to the OHP collision report, Hughes was walking with traffic in the traffic lane when the collision occurred. Kilhefner attempted to avoid Hughes and ran off the right side of the roadway.

Hughes was transported to the Seiling emergency room, where he was pronounced dead.

Kilhefner was not injured in the collision and was wearing a seat belt, according to OHP.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported that Hughes' next of kin has been notified.
