Sayre, OK – Following a rapidly unfolding investigation Monday afternoon by the Beckham County Sheriff’s Office, two wanted individuals, Cole Hinkle and Beverly Binion, were taken into custody by Los Angeles Police officers at a bus station in California.

Hinkle and Binion were wanted on warrants for Trafficking in Methamphetamine with bonds of $200,000 each. They have been on the run since mid-July after fleeing from a hideout on the bank of the Northfork of the Red River south of Sayre. Several officers and agencies have been involved in the search for the pair over the last couple of weeks.

Over the weekend, Beckham County Sheriff’s Office deputies developed information that an acquaintance of Binion’s in Elk City had been wired cash to be given to Hinkle. BKSO secured surveillance footage from a local business which identified the individual who picked up the cash. That individual later admitted that he was instructed to drop off the money and some food at another residence in Elk City.

When deputies searched that residence Monday afternoon, they learned that Hinkle and Binion had been hiding there for a couple of days previously, but had then been driven to a bus station in Amarillo Sunday where they boarded a bus for California.

BKSO’s dispatch division then went to work tracking the bus route and its location, notifying the appropriate agencies that appeared to have the best chance to intercept the bus. Those actions eventually led to the arrest of the pair early Monday evening as they stepped off the bus in the Los Angeles area.

Sheriff Derek Manning said he was proud of the exceptional teamwork of his staff that led to the arrests. “This was a long, drawn-out chase of two very motivated fugitives,” Manning said, “and it ended peacefully and with no one being hurt. That has been our goal all along. I appreciate LAPD for their assistance. And, I can’t say enough about the great police work of my undersheriff, Jeff Miller and our dispatch captain, Zachary Allen. Their tenacity and efficiency as they developed this information and brought the search to a successful conclusion today was impressive. These two professionals knew that time was of the essence, and they took care of business. I’m very proud of their efforts.”

Manning said once the extradition process is taken care of, his office will be responsible for bringing the pair back to Oklahoma to face the warrant charges which stem from an Elk City case.
