Caddo County, OK – Two Arizona men were injured Friday night after a vehicle left Interstate 40 and crashed into a creek bottom east of Hydro, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

The crash happened at approximately 8:24 p.m. Friday, July 10, on westbound Interstate 40 near the 92 mile marker, about 11.5 miles east of Hydro.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported that a vehicle driven by 73-year-old Edward L. Sweeten of Peoria, Arizona, was traveling west on I-40 when it left the roadway to the right for an unknown reason. The vehicle traveled through a fence before going over a large embankment into a creek bottom on the north side of the interstate.

Sweeten and his passenger were trapped inside the vehicle and were extricated by firefighters and EMS personnel. Both sustained injuries in the crash.

Troopers reported that all occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the collision.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
