Weatherford, OK – Parents, caregivers, educators, and community members are invited to attend a free educational event focused on helping children thrive in today's digital world.

The Great Plains Family YMCA Family Resource Center, Southwestern Oklahoma State University Department of Education, and the Oklahoma Association for the Education of Young Children (OKAEYC) will host "Screens, Brains, and Childhood: Helping Children Thrive in a Digital World" on Friday, June 26, at the Great Plains Family YMCA in Weatherford.

The event begins at 6 p.m., with doors opening at 5:30 p.m.

Featured speaker Audrey Rowland, founder and CEO of Green Space Learning, is a nationally recognized early childhood leader known for helping families and educators better understand child development and the impact of technology on young children. Rowland's work focuses on protecting childhood through play, examining how screen use affects brain development, and providing practical strategies for building healthy relationships with technology.

During the presentation, attendees will learn how screens influence early brain development, what current research says about screen time, and practical ways to create healthy technology habits at home and in educational settings.

In addition to the presentation, guests will have an opportunity to meet members of the local Parent Advisory Committee (PAC). The committee is made up of parents and caregivers who work together to strengthen support systems for families throughout the community. PAC members help identify service gaps, provide parent perspectives in community decision-making, and advocate for programs and resources that support children and families.

Organizers say the event is designed for teachers, childcare providers, parents, grandparents, foster parents, and anyone interested in supporting the healthy growth and development of children.

The event is free and open to the public. YMCA Child Watch services, including childcare and activities, will be available during the presentation.
