Dr. Denise Landrum-Geyer Named Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at SWOSU

Weatherford, OK – Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU) has named Dr. Denise Landrum-Geyer as Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. She will begin her role on May 1.

Landrum-Geyer currently serves as chair of the Department of Language and Literature and as a professor of English at SWOSU. She has been a member of the faculty since 2010 and has held several leadership roles across the university, with experience in academic administration, curriculum coordination, accreditation, and student support.

Dr. Landrum-Geyer has demonstrated strong leadership, a clear commitment to student success, and a deep understanding of SWOSU’s academic mission,” said Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Jason Johnson. “I look forward to working with her as she leads the College of Arts and Sciences.”

As Dean, Landrum-Geyer will oversee the College of Arts and Sciences, which includes the Departments of Biological and Biomedical Sciences, Chemistry and Physics, Creative Media and Visual Arts, Language and Literature, Mathematics, Music, and Social Sciences. Her responsibilities will include academic leadership, faculty support, and coordination of college-level planning and assessment.

During her time at SWOSU, Landrum-Geyer has served as department chair since 2021 and as Writing Center coordinator from 2012 to 2021. In these roles, she managed faculty, coordinated curriculum and scheduling, and supported accreditation and assessment efforts. She has also contributed to broader university initiatives related to academic planning, general education, and strategic initiatives, as well as institutional work with the Higher Learning Commission and the Administrative Advisory Council.

Landrum-Geyer earned a Ph.D. in composition and rhetoric from Miami University. She holds a master’s degree in English and bachelor’s degrees in English and French from the University of Kentucky. Her teaching and research focus on composition, writing across the curriculum, and instructional practices in higher education.

She has received numerous awards, including the Bernhardt Academic Excellence Award and recognition as a DaVinci Creativity in Education Fellow.

A search will begin to fill the position of chair of the Department of Language and Literature.
