Beckham County, OK – A Beckham County woman has been arrested after a juvenile was injured during a domestic incident, according to Beckham County Sheriff Derek Manning.

Sheriff Manning said deputies were called to a residence after a juvenile contacted her sister and reported that her mother was yelling at her and had shoved her, causing an injury.

When deputies arrived, the woman had already left the residence. Officers with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol assisted deputies in locating the woman a short time later.

Meanwhile, a Beckham County deputy checked on the juvenile at the residence and confirmed she had been injured. According to Manning, the girl had been shoved into a door jamb and had visible markings from the incident.

The juvenile’s father arrived at the scene, and emergency medical services were called. The girl was taken to the hospital to be evaluated. Authorities later learned she had suffered a concussion.

The child’s mother was arrested on a charge of child abuse by injury.

Sheriff Manning said the child is now safe but was frightened during the incident.

Authorities had reportedly been dealing with the woman for several days prior to the incident due to behavioral issues, which Manning said ultimately led to the alleged assault.

Manning also credited assisting agencies for their help during the response.

Scenes like that can spread out quickly, and with only one or two deputies you can’t be everywhere at once,” Manning said. “We rely on backup from other agencies quite a bit, and we appreciate their assistance.”
