Local Election Filing Periods and Voting Information Announced for Shamrock and Wheeler

Wheeler County, Texas – Voters and potential candidates in Shamrock and Wheeler have several upcoming election-related deadlines and voting dates to be aware of, according to official notices released this week.

The City of Shamrock General Election will be held on May 2, 2025. Filing for a place on the ballot opened January 14, 2025, and runs through February 13, 2025. Declarations of write-in candidacy may be filed from January 14 through February 17, 2025. Filing may be completed at Shamrock City Hall, 305 N. Main Street, from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Fridays. Three seats will be up for election, including Mayor and two City Council seats currently held by Mickey Mitchell and Russell Killingsworth.

The Wheeler Independent School District will also hold a school board election, with three Board of Trustee positions up for re-election. Individuals interested in filing as a candidate may obtain an application by contacting or visiting the Wheeler ISD Administration Office during regular business hours. The final day to file is Thursday, February 13. School officials noted that service on the Board of Trustees plays an important role in supporting governance and the continued success of Wheeler ISD.

For the City of Wheeler General Election, two City Council seats, Place 2 and Place 4, will be on the ballot. The filing period runs from January 14 through February 13, 2026. Applications may be picked up at Wheeler City Hall, 501 S. Alan L. Bean Boulevard, during regular business hours, Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Early voting information has also been released for the March 3 Joint Primary Election. Early voting will take place at the Main Voting Location, 401 Main Street in Wheeler, and at the Meeting Room at Shamrock City Hall, 305 N. Main Street.

Early voting dates and times are as follows:

Tuesday, February 17 through Friday, February 20, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Saturday, February 21, from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Sunday, February 22, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Monday, February 23 through Friday, February 27, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

There will be no voting on Monday, February 16, due to a state-designated holiday. Officials also noted that branch locations will not offer weekend voting.

Residents are encouraged to review filing deadlines carefully and contact the appropriate city or school offices with any questions regarding elections or voting procedures.
