Busey Family Makes Major Gift to SWOSU Bulldogs Angels Fund

The Penny News 1018

Weatherford, OK – Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU) has announced a major charitable contribution from longtime benefactors and alumni Philip Busey, Jr., ’04, and his wife, Heather (Ratcliffe) Busey, ’04, of Oklahoma City.

This latest generous gift from the Buseys will support the SWOSU Bulldog Angels Fund. The Bulldog Angels Fund was established by 2014 SWOSU Distinguished Alumnus and Carnegie native Bill Howell, ’75, to benefit SWOSU students in times of crisis. The fund is a vital resource to SWOSU students when all other options for assistance are exhausted or unavailable. Since its inception, the Bulldog Angels Fund has helped hundreds of SWOSU students who are facing extreme financial pressures to stay enrolled and on track.

Philip serves as President of Oklahoma City-based Delaware Resource Group of Oklahoma, LLC (DRG), a Native American-owned leading global aerospace defense contractor providing training services, contractor logistics services (CLS), logistics services, and numerous other service lines all over the world. Heather is a dedicated homemaker, active civic volunteer, and neighborhood organizer.

Philip and Heather are the parents of Griffin and Beau.

Philip and Heather have previously made thoughtful investments in SWOSU’s mission via the Busey Brothers Scholarship Endowment, the SWOSU Pianos fundraising effort, and a wide variety of lecture and event sponsorships as well as gifts of specially-commissioned art.

Philip served as the 10th Chairman of the Board of the SWOSU Foundation, Inc., from Fall 2023 – Fall 2025. He is a Past President of the SWOSU Alumni Association.

We are deeply grateful to our graduates and donors, Philip and Heather Busey, for so graciously supporting the SWOSU Bulldog Angels Fund,” said SWOSU Foundation, Inc., Executive Director Mr. Garrett King, ’08 & ’18. “The fund helps SWOSU students facing times of terrible adversity and strain to press forward and overcome. Our shared alma mater is stronger today thanks to the kindness and generosity of alumni like the Buseys.”

The Bulldog Angels Fund is stewarded by the SWOSU Foundation, Inc., which was established in 1977 to promote philanthropy, award scholarships, and distribute funds to support the activities and programs of SWOSU.
